Original Thomasian Physician Music Virtual Concert

By: Dr. Ma. Margarita Leticia D. Gellaco & Dr. Arnold Pineda

The UST Medical Alumni Association’s (USTMAA) year-end activity held last December 12, 2020 became an online serenade that showcased Original Thomasian Physician Music for those who wanted to listen to good music and be inspired by the songs created by our very own Tomasinong Manggagamot . The common theme of reminscing medical school life along with the gratitude and love for our alma mater filled the evening. Majority of the 285 attendees wanted to just sit back and relax, but many of our alumni chose to give back through their pledges that are earmarked for the community activities of the USTMAA.

To start off the night, a special version of “Lupang Hinirang” was sung by AHOC 2013Class 1982 rendered the invocation through a special rendition of “Ama Namin” specially arranged by Dr. Ogie Frez. Recorded performances from 5 groups were then presented. A big salute to the participating USTFMS Classes of 1977, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1988 and 1989. Class 1977 presented “The Spirit Lives On” by Dr. Jorge Sison. Again from Class 1982, a special song arrangement of the song “Sino ang Baliw” by the exceptional musical genius, Dr.  Mon del Rosario, was brought to life by the Doctrine of Ethos Chorale. Class 1983 bagged the Most Liked Performance of the night, featuring “Doktor Tomasino” by Dr. Ronnie Yutangco. The University quadricentennial song was created and sung by Dr. Boy Adiao of Class 1986. Class 1988 performed “Tomasinong Manggagamot”. The Medicus Chorum from Class 1989 performed “Sa Silong Mo”.

The young brood were not to be outdone. Our very own Medicine Glee Club interpreted “Seasons of Love” to the delight of the virtual audience. Nearing the end of the virtual concert, we heard the inspirational “Thomasian Prayer” by Dr. Cesar Holgado. The final surprise number was “Christmas in our Hearts” by the current board of the USTMAA headed by President Jocelyn Mariano. It was a December weekend to remember, whether one was raising a wine glass to toast the evening or sipping from a cup of coffee to welcome the the new day with songs and camaraderie. Maraming maraming salamat pong muli sa USTMAA America, Medichem Pharmaceuticals, Recovery Hub, USTFMS Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, StreetstoSchools, Eggshell Protective Gear, Sorbetes Apparel and CME at Work.
