Faculty of Medicine and Surgery’s Researchers on the COVID 19 Pandemic
Flordeluna Mesina, MD, Leilani Asis, MD, Ph.D., and Sandra Navarra MD, researchers of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery have published timely articles about Covid 19.
Mesina, a hematologist, has written three research articles that focus on vaccination guidelines in patients with hematologic diseases, possible hematologic event post-COVID 19 vaccination and effects of convalescent plasma therapy in hospitalized COVID 19 patients.

Leilani Mercado-Asis, MD, PhD, an endocrinologist, wrote a review article that centered on the risk factors of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and advanced age for increased mortality in severe COVID-19 infection, the interplay of acute elevation in circulating catecholamines due to the stress of COVID-19 infection in an already compromised cardiovascular function, and the importance of the early recognition and timely management of acute hypercatecholaminergic surge and cytokine storm.

Sandra Navarra MD, a rheumatologist, was part of the Asia Pacific Lupus Collaboration who wrote an article on COVID-19 infection in systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
