Last October 7, 2023, was an extraordinary day for the UST-FMS community as we celebrated a monumental event. The dream that was once just a vision is now proudly standing tall in front of the Miguel de Benavides Library. It is with great joy and pride that we gather for the UST-FMS Henry Sy Hall Research and Simulation Building Topping off ceremony.
The construction of this remarkable building commenced in January 2023 and has made significant progress, with the completion currently standing at 40%. The event was graced by UST’s Father Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Richard G. Ang, O.P, the family of Mr. Henry Sy, the administrators of UST-FMS, the officers and trustees of the Anargyroi Foundation, the Dominican brothers, as well as the engineers and contractors involved, have brought us closer to witnessing the fulfillment of this long-awaited project.
Dean Odette Maglinao expressed her excitement and optimism for the future. She said, “This paradigm shift is set to revolutionize medical and healthcare education and research, providing future Filipino physicians with the best, cutting edge, accessible 21st century education to better serve our country. The Simulation Center will provide a realistic environment for medical learners to promote patient care and safety. The Henry Sy Sr Hall will be a venue for international, scientific, and will be a hub for simulation in medical education, collaborative multidisciplinary research and interprofessional education.”
Father Rector Richard Ang delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the pivotal role that UST-FMS plays in elevating medical education standards and transforming the science of medical care in the Philippines. He said, “This magnificent edifice will equip medical students with state-of-the-art equipment, including robotics, providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their field.”
The completion of this building is a testament to the collective efforts of various stakeholders. It is built upon the unwavering support and generosity of major benefactors especially the family of Mr Henry Sy Sr, the alumni and other benefactors who have contributed to the UST FMS Anargyroi Foundation, Inc. (AFI).
We stand here, witnessing the progress made and envisioning the future, filled with anticipation. The UST-FMS Henry Sy Hall Research and Simulation Building will undoubtedly be a milestone in the history of our institution. It is a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and vision of all those involved. We look forward to the day when this building will be fully completed, serving as a beacon of excellence and innovation in medical education and research, not only in the Philippines but on a global scale.
