REMEMBERING DR CHITO MAGAT

By: Flordeluna Z. Mesina, MD

“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered and how fleeting life is.”
Psalm 39:4

We mourn the untimely passing of Dr. Lorenzo “Chito/Shoe” M. Magat, faculty staff of the UST-FMS Department of Laboratory Medicine last New Year’s Eve.

Dr. Magat is a member of UST-FMS Class 1985. He is fondly remembered by his batchmate as one cool guy or “chill lang”. According to Dr. Macabulos, “Shoe can suddenly turn serious-looking, silent, pensive but very deep with full of wisdom when he starts talking. He makes people at ease with him by his endearing smile and calm voice.”

His medschool seatmate, Dr. Elaine Madayag described him as “very steady, very dependable,  kind, and comforting soul who helped made medschool days a lot more pleasant.”

He has a good eye for photography. Dr. Fer Macarayo recalled; “He was fond of nostalgic events and places. He preferred street photography. We liked visiting Quiapo church, Hidalgo street and Chinatown and took pictures to freeze time through his lenses”.

His colleagues at the Department of Laboratory Medicine described him as very religious and passionate in whatever strikes his interest. “He would always attend daily mass at the Santisimo Rosario Parish and was a Marian devotee. Aside from photography, he loves good food, coffee and tea. Lighter moments in Lab Med would consists of him introducing us to the variants of tea and making a cup or two for everyone.”, said Dr. Angeles. We join his colleagues, family and friends in mourning the loss of a good man.
